ALBUM chart-toppers you At Six believe mindless dance tunes are killing off the music industry.
The band – who topped the midweek album charts with Sinners never Sleep – hit out at No.1 single Loca People by Sak Noel.
Drummer Dan Flint said: “That stupid song just does our heads in. There seems to be a funny obsession with putting weird club music alongside foreign languages.
“Nobody actually knows what the Spanish girl is saying – just the same thing over and over again.”
Guitarist Max Helyer agreed: “She could be saying anything like, ‘Pass the salt, fancy a cup of tea?’”
Bassist Matt Barnes added: “If you’re in the club and have had a few drinks you might dance to it, but if you try to listen to the tune more than four times you could end up doing damage to yourself.”
Singer Josh Franceschi said: “I don’t mind it,” but guitarist Chris Miller asked: “Why spend money on that when you could watch real bands playing real instruments?
“Some people spent a long time writing creative and fresh tunes then you get something like that.”
The boys feel strongly about real music making a comeback in the charts – and they are convinced fans flocking to buy their album shows rock is still alive and kicking.
They reckon X Factor pop has kept rock out of the charts for too long.
Josh suggested: “You should put the headline: ‘Rock N Roll Dead? we Don’t Think So.’
“All the acts people see from X Factor and Britain’s got Talent are in the limelight for a year then just disappear. we did two nights at the Hammersmith Apollo in London and very few people in the top 40 could do that.
“Our fan base come and see our live music rather than spend money on buying our songs.”
This week you me At Six were astounded to see they’d topped the album sales charts midweek.
Dan said: “We will not be hugely upset if we don’t stay at No.1 because it’s all about the live shows and how we grow internationally.
“It would be cool to keep the record label happy, though.”
